DEBRA GROGAN
Art has been a life-long passion and learning experience for
Debra Grogan. A self-taught artist with no formal education
in the arts, she experimented with different mediums of
expressive art forms, from papier-mâché to stained glass and
ceramics, before she discovered her true love for painting.
Ending a 15-year professional career in nursing, Debra went
on to pursue her dreams of a career in the arts. A favorite
George Eliot quote of Debra's, "It is never too late to be
what you might have been," is the impetus for her
ever-evolving life.
Debra draws her inspiration from nature, the world around
her, and her personal sanctuary, her garden. "The colors and
textures in my garden invigorate my artistic senses. Spring
with all its promise, and Fall with all its richness in
color, are my favorite seasons." Although she considers folk
art her first love and most notable style, she has enjoyed
the progression to watercolor floral and textile designs,
for which she is known today. Debra now designs full time
from her busy studio,
Debra
Grogan Designs. Over the past decade, she has designed
an impressive portfolio of products for leading home and
garden wholesale manufacturers including, Sunset Vista
Designs Company, Carson Home Accents, Frames Plus Inc., Kay
Dee Designs, The Galway Company, and Oklahoma Embroidery.
An experienced quilter herself, Debra jumped at the
opportunity to create fabric collections for RJR. Her love
of design and color made her a natural fit. Debra shares, "I
enjoy the challenge of putting together unique color
combinations and interesting patterns that can be mixed and
matched to create playful, vibrant quilts. I truly hope my
fellow quilters enjoy creating projects with my lines, as
much as I have enjoyed creating them!"
Debra resides in Michigan with her husband, Brian, dogs
Daisy and Chester, and cat Biscuit. Although her dog Henry,
and cats, Taffy and Oreo, are no longer with her, their
faces grace the canvases of much of her artwork. She credits
her continued success to her husband, family and friends who
encourage, love and support her. Her grandchildren, Nolan
and Emmy, inspire her every day. "It's hard to believe some
days how ridiculously blessed I am!" |
